EDITORIAL: Haiti is not on Rubio’s agenda

February 24, 2026

US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, is headed to St Kitts for the Caribbean Heads of Government meeting, but on his agenda is Cuba and Venezuela. No word about Haiti.

This is what we keep telling Haitians, is that nobody really cares about if you keep your country in the mess that it is in. It sounds harsh, but true.

Haitian leadership and the intelligencia can continue to fight amongst themselves over a failed country as much as they want, but no one is coming to help Haiti outside of the people you have seen already tried to help Haiti.

Why should anyone help Haiti? What does it have to offer? Aside from wasted time and money. Who would want to send valuable troops and treasure to help a people who clearly cannot help themselves.

Haiti is not going to be like this way ever, at some point and time things will get better. But, the leadership of today have to get it together, have elections and then start the arduous task of rebuilding a new country. Forget about the leaders of the past going back to Jean-Jacques Dessalines, nobody cares about your history of being the first free country in the Western Hemisphere. It is not helping you.

Start a new country. For your own sake.
