There is now an uprising from the Democrats and other human rights observers on the “double tap,” strike on the first Venezuelan boat that was suspected of having survivors.
The Democrats have led an outcry after a Washington Post article that said that US Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth knew that there were survivors but then authorised the second strike neutralizing all of the survivors.
This, if the truth, would be a war crime. But, in any event, the Trump administration does not care how it looks or who thinks it is a war crime. Fact is, they are sending a message to the world and to Maduro in Venezuela to let them know who the world super power really is. It is not China, not Russia and not any country in Europe or them as a collective, but it is the United States of America.
The thing is, they will make noise about Trump. They will try to head fake with some charges and even try to bring some charges, but Trump and I would also add Hegseth, does not care one bit how the Democrats, human rights observers or the world feels about this. They are after the drug traffickers in Venezuela and the Maduro regime as a whole.
This is war, by no other words to describe it. Maduro should have never pump faked on that incursion in Guyanese waters with the Exxon ship. Wrong move. Now he has to pay. And Venezuelans may have to suffer, or feel vindication, depending on what side of the political fence they lie on.
The end of Maduro may be at hand. By next year this time, there will not be a Maduro regime in Venezuela any longer.
