I believe there are too many threats in the air over a possible US v China World War. It’s almost as if people expect it. There has been no credible threat posed by either side thus far, but the rumours of war are very distressing.
There is simply no need for a World War involving China and the US. There is no need for the build up of the mistrust and angst on either side.
A lot of the concern is on the American side as if they have a guilty conscience for all of the things it has done over the decades to other countries and they fear China is a rising power and will subject them to the same treatment.
Another bit of concern is on the Chinese side because they understand now they have a strategic vulnerability and if they don’t’ change they may never become the world’s only superpower.
This has to stop. We need to step back and then come again with peace and partnership. Instead of focusing on fears, we need to focus on joint programmes we can all work together on. For example there are scores of developing countries that can do well if China and America double team on their needs and concerns. Latin America and the Caribbean can use both China and America to bring us into the first world, developed status.
So replace fear with hope and trust. It’s the better way.
